“Children and stamps: how children see the 1821 Revolution” - a set of stamps designed by children
Thursday, October 7, 2021

Last March, as part of the year-long celebrations to mark the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence, we invited children between the ages of seven and 15 to log on to the platform https://1821.elta.gr/, and take part in a special online art competition on the topic of “The 1821 Revolution”. About six thousand children from all over Greece and Cyprus, as well as pupils in Greek schools abroad, entered the competition.

The youngsters excelled themselves, amazing us with wonderful drawings and paintings that uniquely captured heroes and events from the War of Independence. Thank you to all of them for taking part! All the entrants will receive a personalised stamp sheet of their entry as a souvenir gift from Hellenic Post.

Four of the pictures have been turned into stamps, while others have inspired the philatelic products, postmark, posters and booklets of the Commemorative Set “Children and stamps: how children see the 1821 Revolution”.

This highly original set of stamps created entirely by children is being released on 7 October 2021. For the next year, the stamps will take our mail on its travels and enrich the albums of collectors, after which they will always be part of our rich philatelic history.
