As a cultural value unchanged for centuries, the Olympic Spirit travelled beyond the borders of its homeland, along with its ideology and philosophy, and with the revival of the Olympic Games, spread throughout the world, so that it is now one of the most important manifestations of modern culture. The global Olympic family has grown, with the participation of more and more countries, as has the Olympic sporting programme, with the addition of new events. The Commemorative Set of Stamps Olympic Games - Tokyo 2020 honours Japan’s contribution to the Games with two miniature sheets.

The first shows Jigoro Kano, an iconic figure in modern Japanese sport, whose efforts to bring Japan into the Olympic fold mark the start of the country’s Olympic history. The father of judo, the first Asian member of the International Olympic Committee, borders the stamp with landmarks of modern Tokyo, which celebrates the start of the Games with a fireworks display.

The second miniature sheet features the popular sport of Hanetsuki. The landscape, with clear references to traditional Japanese wood engraving, highlights the historical aesthetic of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, while the modern stadium pictured on the stamp symbolises the host country’s long sporting history and its contribution to modern sport.

Originated from the first ever Olympic Stamps of 1896, Hellenic Post display a rich artistic tradition regarding the issue of Olympic Stamps that are highly anticipated among the collectors globally.
